WEC- 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps: LMGTE Qualifying
The verdict is in for the 6 hours of Spa-Francorchamps LMGTE qualifying session: Ahmad Al Harthy leads his opponents by more than 2 seconds in the #25 Aston Martin Vantage ORT by TF.
LMGTE top 5
If you remember our interview with Ben Keating April 12, Al Harthy, Bovy, Perez Companc and Keating were considered as the fastest bronze drivers in the class as well as the potential winners of the Championship. The 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps qualifying session proved the accuracy of this prediction because these 4 drivers are in the top 5 of the qualifying session.
The Aston Martin Vantage AMR saw their power/engine speed ratio increased very slightly (+0.02) (and the capacity of their tank increased by one litre), but this single change in the BoP is too marginal to link Al Harthy's performance to it because the other Aston Martin bronze drivers are far behind.
A regular on the podium in qualifying, Sarah Bovy in the #85 Porsche 911 struck hard again by setting the second fastest time of the session on her last lap, at the very end of the session. The Porsche n°85 of the Iron Dames receives a 5kg load following their third place in Portimao.
Corvette C8.R #33 is the most penalised by the "success ballast" because it carries 45 kg of ballast following the two victories at Sebring and Portimao (2 x 15 kg) as well as being leader of the championship (15kg) . Difficult in these circumstances for Ben Keating to compete with his competitors. He still realises the 4th fastest lap.
