IMSA 2022: GTD @ ROAR qualifications

GTD 15’ qualifications session started on a damp track causing several nice slides in first horse shoe turn but the session could end on a dry track with Alex Imperatori taking the GTD pole for KCMG on his #2 Porsche 911 GT3 R beating Porsche works driver Mathieu Jaminet in the #9 Pfaff Porsche by just 0.063s.

The two GTD-Pro Porsche will start in front of two GTD Mercedes-AMG GT3 : Kenny Habul (#75 Sun Energy 1) did the third fastest overall lap of the 29 GT cars, 0.151s ahead of Russell Ward in the #57 Winward Racing sister.

Andrea Caldarelli in #63 TR3 Racing’s Lamborghini Huracan was fifth of the GTs overall, ahead of Ross Gunn’s #23 Heart of Racing team Aston Martin Vantage.

John Miller got the #59 McLaren 720S of Crucial Motorsports into seventh and Davide Rigon, the only Ferrari in GTD class (#62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488) in eight overall of the two classes.

Ben Barnicoat with the #14 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus RC F and Marco Engel in the #97 Proton Competition Mercedes AMG GT3 are completing the top 10.

7 Car manufacturers out of the 10 present on the entry list are represented in the five first rows of today’s race. The missing one are BMW M4 GT3 (the first was 1.063 sec. Slower than the class leader), Corvette C8 R GTD (1.525 sec. slower than Imperatori’s Porsche) and Acura NSX GT3 (no qualification time).

Note that Austin Cindric with #15 GTD-Pro Proton USA Mercedes-AMG GT3 damaged his car and couldn’t perform a qualification time.
