GT 24 Hours of SPA 2021 final results

Overall ranking

The 24 hours of Spa 2021 ended with a dramatic overtake in the penultimate lap (see more in our previous article).

Three cars end in the same lap with a less than 1’ 25” gap.

1.   The #51 Iron Lynx Ferrari 488 GT3 driven by Cöme Ledogar, Nicklas Nielsen and Alessandro Pier Guidi has been leading since the 11th hour. It is the fourth overall triumph for Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Spa but the first since 2004.

2.   The #32 Audi Sport Team WRT Audi R8 LMS GT3 with Dries Vanthoor, Kelvin van der Linde and Charles Weerts has always been very close… ending 3.978 seconds behind.

3.  The  #95 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 driven by Nicki Thiim, Ross Gunn and Marco Sorensen from Garage 59, 1:24.957 behind the winners.

  • right at the Friday Warm UP

  • left on Sunday morning

showing that the 9 drivers managed to keep their car clean of scratches or any contact with others demonstrating their regularity and mastery.

Behind the leading duo Nicki Thiim, Marco Sorensen and Ross Gunn with the #95 Garage 59 Aston Martin Vantage took Aston Martin's first overall podium since 2008. The trio ran 3rd for the last nine hours after benefiting from the No. 88 AKKA-ASP Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo having to retire, but was unable to challenge the top-two.

Nico Müller, Robin Frijns, Dennis Lind driving Audi R8 LMS GT3 #37 from Audi Sport Team WRT ended 4th, 2 laps behind the winners.

Last year winners Nick Tandy, Laurens Vanthoor and 2016 winner Maxime Martin were not able to make their dream come true with their #47 KCMG Porsche 911 GT3-R (991.II). They are 5th overall, the second of a group of 6 cars ending in the same lap after 24 Hours race.

Tandy and Martin drove the bulk of the race after Vanthoor had had an accident on his scooter in the paddock.

The #25 Audi Sport Team Saintéloc Racing with Markus Winkelhock, Patric Niederhauser, Christopher Haase at the wheel ends in 6th position.

A late overtake ensured Rob Bell, Oliver Wilkinson, Ben Barnicoat with the #38 JOTA McLaren a superb 7th place, offering McLaren its best-ever overall result in Francorchamps.

As a result, Mirko Bortolotti, Marco Mapelli, Andrea Caldarelli with the #63 Orange1 FFF Racing Lamborghini ended 8th.

Mattia Drudi, Dennis Marschall, Christopher Mies with the #66 Audi R8 LMS GT3 from Audi Sport Team Attempto and Lucas Auer, Timur Boguslavskiy, Felipe Fraga with the #89 Mercedes-AMG GT3 from AKKA ASP Mercedes-AMG are completing the top 10.

Silver Cup

Madpanda Motorsport took Silver Cup honours with its #90 Mercedes-AMG. The quartet Ezequiel Perez Companc, Ricardo Sanchez, Patrick Kujala, Rik Breukers took advantage of an early shower to move to the lead by two hours of the end.

Tuomas Tujula, Alex MacDowall, Valentin Hasse Clot, Nicolai Kjaergaard with their #7 Mercedes-AMG from Toksport WRT enabled Mercedes-AMG to achieve a 1-2 in the Silver Cup class.

The #159 Garage 59 Aston Martin Vantage driven by Alex MacDowall, Tuomas Tujula, Valentin Hasse-Clot and Nicolai Kjaergaard completed the class podium in third.

Pro-AM

AF Corse secured a one-two finish in Pro-Am, its fifth victory in the class and the first since 2015. The #53 line-up of Duncan Cameron, Matt Griffin, Rino Mastronardi and Miguel Molina came out on top against the sister #52 driven by Louis Machiels, John Wartique, Andrea Bertolini, Alessio Rovera.

AM Cup

Pieder Decurtins, Manuel Lauck, Marc Basseng and Dennis Busch claimed victory with the #166 Porsche Hägeli by T2 Racing in the Am Cup. It was a close battle with the #23 Huber Motorsport car, which suffered a heavy crash at Raidillon Sunday morning.

The teams

Ferrari won the Coupe du Roi for the manufacturer with the best result in the various classes, based on the scores after 6, 12 and 24 hours.

  • Overall winners Alessandro Pier Guidi, Nicklas Nielsen and Côme Ledogar with #51 Iron Lynx Ferrari 488,

  • In the Pro-Am class,

    • Duncan Cameron, Rino Mastronardi, Matt Griffin, Miguel Molina winning with #53 AF Corse Ferrari 488,

    • Louis Machiels, John Wartique, Andrea Bertolini, Alessio Rovera second with #52 AF Corse Ferrari 488

    • fourth-place for Jonathan Hui, Chris Froggatt, Matteo Cressoni and Edwards Cheever with #93 Sky Tempesta Racing Ferrari 488.

Audi Sport managed to get their 4 cars on the entry list ending in the top 10 with

  • Audi Sport Team WRT #32 second and #37 fourth

  • Audi Sport Team Saintéloc #25 sixth

  • Audi Sport Team Attempto #66 ninth.
