Peugeot plans to enter two 9X8 in LMH with several ex-formula 1 drivers.

Peugeot will be a new challenger to Toyota in 2022 and 2023 with the 9X8 in the LMH class. Peugeot plans to enter two 9X8 powered with a 2.6-liter twin-turbo V-6 driving the rear wheels, and an electric motor-generator driving the front wheels. The driver line-up includeJean-Eric Vergne,Paul Di Resta, Kevin Magnussen, Loic Duval,Mikkel Jensen, Gustavo Menezes, and James Rossiter.

The world of prototypes was marked by a breathless duel between Audi and Peugeot from 2007 to 2011. The Peugeot 908 HDi FAP (powered by 5.5-litre V12 diesel engine) scored podiums at Le Mans in the first two years and gained its biggest success in 2009, by scoring a 1-2 victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was the third and last victory for Peugeot at Le Mans after the 905 in 1992 and 1993. In America, the 908 HDi FAP was victorious at Sebring 12 hours two times, in 2010 and 2011.

Corvette will run a full-time WEC entry.

Nick Tandy and Tommy Milner will campaign for the C8.R GTE PRO for the entire 2022 WEC season. At The 24 Hours of Le Mans, Corvette will also race a second C8.R with Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor, which will participate in the IMSA GTD Pro category. 

Both teams will be completed by Alexander Sims in the WEC and Nicky Catsburg in IMSA for the longer endurance races.

It will be the first time in Corvette Racing’s history that the team will participate in both the WEC and IMSA.

Chevrolet has also confirmed that it will sell the Corvette Z06 GT3.R, a customer-focused racing Corvette for competition in a wide variety of GT3 championships for the start of the 2024 racing season. Based on the road-going Z06, the GT3.R will share the same aluminum chassis, with a new LT6 engine modified for use in the racecar, and similar aerodynamic features.

Glickenhaus commits to WEC season 2022 with one car.

Jim Glickenhaus, team founder, committed to start next season with one car at Sebring and Spa and 2 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He said that the intention is to do the remainder of the year provided his cars have a fair Balance of Performance (BoP). He also said he wants to continue racing in the WEC for another five years. Alpine and the Signatech team will race next season with their LMP1 Oreca.

Based on the confirmation of the extension of the LMP1 cars into the 2022 season, Philippe Sinaultas, Signatech boss, intents to continue in the Hypercar class with the Alpine A480.

Alpine will develop an LMDh for the WEC in conjunction with the French constructor Oreca for 2024.

No news about ByKolles commitment to WEC season 2022 since April 2021.

April 2nd 2021, ByKOLLES Racing announced developing the new Hypercar for the FIA WEC Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Tom Dillmann and Esteban Guerrieri, would share the test and development work. Since then, no more news or re-iterated.

Audi and Porsche committed to WEC and IMSA in 2023 and 2024.

Volkswagen Group sister companies Audi and Porsche will return to the FIA WEC and IMSA in 2023. Both team’s cars will be based on a Multimatic LMP2 chassis.

Audi withdrawed from WEC LMP1 competition at the end of 2016 after winning 2012 and 2013 championships as well as 2012, 2013 and 2014 24 hours of Le Mans. The team is expected to run two full-season FIA WEC factory cars powered by a VAG twin-turbo V8. Rene Rast and Nico Mueller have been named as part of the team’s roster. Customer teams could race with Audi chassis in IMSA’s LMDh.

Porsche stopped their WEC program in 2017 after winning Manufacturers and Driver’s championships as well as 24 hours of Le Mans from 2015 to 2017. The Porsche will be powered by a production-based 4 litres twin turbo V8 used in a variety of models including the Porsche Panamera and Cayenne. Porsche committed to two cars both in the WEC and IMSA, Penske will be the service provider for both championships.
