Algarve Pro Racing wins Sepang red flagged race 2

Romain Dumas’ team RD Limited takes the lead of the Asian Le Mans Series LMP2 Teams Trophy after two podiums at Sepang: a win at race 1 followed by a P2 in race 2.

Algarve Pro Racing wins race 2

Michael Jensen, Malthe Jakobsen and Valerio Rinicella took victory with #25 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca after the team opted for slick tires when then leaders went out with wet tires. Both Algarve Pro Racing cars were 8th and 9th at mid race almost one lap down for #25 and one lap for #20 when Malthe Jakobsen, on slicks, took over leading Louis Deletraz (#91 Pure Rxcing) with wet tires between two showers and flew away with more than 25 seconds advance.

Luckily for Jakobsen, amid heavy rain at the Malaysian track, a safety car was called with 56 minutes left and the race was red-flagged with 47 minutes to go. With 15 minutes left in worsening conditions the race was definitively stopped with both Algarve Pro Racing Oreca’s scoring P1 and P3.

Stephane Lemeret (#35 Ultimate), did wait gently 8 laps behind Jens Reno Moellerm in #26 Bretton Racing until his tires lost grip to pass him and increase the gap lap by lap. Quintarelli and Valint took over to maintain the lead and win LMP3 class in #35 Ultimate JS P320 operated by AF Corse, one lap ahead of #49 High Class Racing’s Ligier.

Leaders change in LMGT3 due to weather conditions

As in LMP2 class, the LMGT3 ranking was altered due to different strategies as the leaders went back to pit to change tires while three cars hung on without stopping and clinch a podium seat. Jules Gounon, Gabriele Piana and Rinat Salhikov in 81 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo took victory in GT ahead of #10 Manthey Porsche of Antares Au, Joel Sturm and Klaus Bachler, and #28 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 of Manny Franco, Massimiliano Wiser and Davide Rigon.
