1000 Miles of Sebring LMP2 Entries
Let us review 12 LMP2 teams entries of the 1000 Miles of Sebring. Read here who are our favorites among those 12 entries and why.
12 Oreca 07 - Gibson will fight for victory among 7 teams in LMP2 class.
Generally, the car manufacturer is a key element in differentiating participants in a specific class. The great thing about LMP2 is that each entry has the same type of car with identical specifications.
Team, drivers, and a bit of luck will make the difference. Based on 3 previous years’ experiences and teams lineups, we view JOTA, Team WRT and United Autosport as well as Alpine Elf Team as our 4 favorites. Here is why.
JOTA
JOTA won last year's championship by scoring two podiums (win and 3rd) at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 4 podiums for #38 at Spa, Monza, Fuji and Bahrain. 1,000 Miles of Sebring was their worst result with a P5 and a P6. #38 driven by Da Costa, Gonzales and Stevens closed the Championship 21 points ahead of Team WRT #31.
JOTA also ended second in the two previous Championships: 2019-2020 and 2021.
JOTA kept Oliver Rasmussen on #28 and William Stevens on #38 forming the base of two new trios: Heinemeier Hanson and Fittipaldi will co-drive Rasmussen on board of #28 and Beckmann, he will share #38 with Stevens.
Team WRT
Team WRT are running their last season in LMP2 in preparation of upgrading to Hypercar class with BMW next year.
After winning their first Championship in 2021 and ending second in 2022, they are eager to win this year’s Championship.
Moreover that they are renewing the 2021 ELMS duo Robert Kubica and Louis Deletraz who dominated the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans before abandoning in the penultimate lap! With Rui Andrade, they form a fast, experienced and faultless trio. Read Louis Deletraz's interview to get his view.
The second team is not to be outdone with Sean Gelael and Robin Frijns being vice champions last year. Ferdinand Habsburg, who won the 2021 trophy will be the third driver sharing the #31 Oreca.
United Autosport
Season 2019-2020 champion United Autosport is our third favorite considering they are always among the fastest with Albuquerque and Blomqvist, who dominate the IMSA championship with their Acura. United Autosport ended fourth in 2021 with #22 and third in 2022 with #23.
2020-2021 season champions Felipe Albuquerque and Philipp Hanson will share #22 with newcomer Frederick Lubin.
Last year's duo Oliver Jarvis and Joshua Pierson on board of #23 have a reinforcement of strength this year with last year's IMSA Champion Tom Blomqvist.
Alpine Elf Team
After running with an LMP1 in Hyperclass during the two last seasons, Alpine comes back in LMP2 class to prepare for next year with the new Hyperclass Alpine.
André Negrao and Matthieu Vaxivière who shared the #36 LMP1 to finish second overall in last year's championship will be split among two cars. Negrao will share the Alpine #35 with Memo Rojas and Oliver Caldwell. Vaxivière will take the wheel of #36 Alpine with Julien Canal and Charles Milesi.
