WEC season 10: 1.000 Miles of Sebring 2022 LMh and LMP2 race
Alpine took its first Hypercar victory at the 1.000 miles of Sebring 2022 with Nicolas Lapierre, Matthieu Vaxiviere and Andre Negrao after a two red flag race of this first round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Pole sitter Alpine had close to 90-second lead over the pair of Toyota GR010 when the first red flag was raised caused by a heavy crash of Lopez with #7 Toyota GR010 at turn 14. Before the second red flag caused by a forecasted thunderstorm supposed to be of epic proportions they had one lap lead. At each re-start it was a new race where positions are kept but leads erased.
#8 Toyota GR010 ended second 0,686” behind after making two pit stops in rapid succession during the last stint of the race.
The #708 Glickenhaus team ended third one lap behind the winning Alpine slowed by a penalty due to overtaking before the last restart.
Balance of Performance for the Toyota GR010 HYBRID Hypercars severely restricted the performance of the cars during the weekend at Sebring. During qualification sesssion, last year FIA World Endurance Championship champion José María López was seventh quickest in the #7 car he drives alongside Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayashi. Lopez abandoned the 1000 miles after 3:30 racing following two consecutive accidents which ended in the wall and on the roof.
LMP2
The Hypercars have been challenged by LMP2 cars as Filipe Albuquerque with #22 United Autosport Oreca was in P2 the first lap still being in P4 in lap 3 in front of #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid.
Paul di Resta, Oliver Jarvis and Joshua Pierson on the wheel of the #23 Unitied Autosport Oreca won the class being fourth overall, 2 laps behind the Alpine for this first round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
