IMSA at Watkins Glen Thursday practice
The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen marks the return of all four WeatherTech Championship classes in competition. With fifty-six cars entered, the Sahlen’s Six Hours also serves as the third of five rounds in the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup. Half of the points have already been granted (20 for Daytona and 15 for Sebring) as 35 points remain to be allocated (10 for The Glen, 10 for the Battle on the Bricks and 15 for Petit Le Mans).
Only one point separate the duo Jaminet-Tandy (24 points also for Cameron who’ll not race at Watkins Glen) with the trio Aitken-Derani-Blomqvist in #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac (23 points). Bourdais-van der Zande are still close with 20 points in #01 Cadillac Racing Cadillac. Both Cadillac and Porsche are leading the manufacturers Michelin Endurance Cup with 29 points each.
The Thursday first free Practice was completed with four different GTP manufacturers in the top-four.
Porsche Penske Motorsport #9 Porsche 963 fastest in Practice 1
Dane Cameron was quickest in Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen’s first practice laying down a 1:34.175 lap time with #7 Penske Porsche 963.
Whelen Engineering Cadillac second
Tom Blomqvist in the #31 Action Express Racing Cadillac V-Series.R was 0.172 seconds slower in P2.
Acura #10 third
Filipe Albuquerque was third quickest with #10 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura ARX-06.
BMW M Hybrid V8 fourth
The #24 Team RLL BMW M Hybrid V8 of Philipp Eng was fourth so that four different GTP manufacturers are in the top-four.
Second Porsche 963 in top 5
Nick Tandy completed the top-five in the #6 Porsche Penske Motorsport Porsche 963.
Cadillac Racing in P6
Renger van der Zande’s #01 Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac wa sixth, 0.694 seconds slower than practice 2’s Bachmark.
