Victory for Iron Lynx’s LMP2 trio in Mugello

It was a race with numerous safety car phases and, at the end of the third hour, a spectacular accident on the start-finish straight causing the race being red-flagged for some time.

Cairoli-Capietto-Ried first win in LMP2

Thanks to two successive interruptions and good pitstops from the team, Macéo Capietto with the #9 Oreca took the lead back at lap 57.

Macéo Capietto handed the car over to Matteo Cairoli for the final part of the race in the lead and on the final restart with an hour to go, the Italian driver pulled away as the #65 faded, holding off the #25 Algarve Pro Racing entry for the victory – the first for the crew along with their first pole position, and the first in LMP2 for Iron Lynx.

Matteo Cairoli (Oreca 07-Gibson #9): “That was a great weekend for us. We achieved everything we could have: pole, victory and fastest race lap. This is my first LMP2 win. When I look back at all the bad luck we’ve had this season, it makes this moment all the sweeter. We kept believing in ourselves and the team supported us excellently. Now, we’re shooting for a victory in Portimao as well.”

Jonas Ried (Oreca 07-Gibson #9): “This is my first victory in the ELMS and no doubt the highlight of my career. Everything was spot on today, from the fantastic car to our perfect strategy. The pit team was great as well. We had the race under control the whole time. It doesn’t get much better than that.”

#34 Inter Europol Competition third

#34 Inter Europol Competition driven by Oliver Gray, Clement Novalak and Luca Ghiotto led the race the first half of the race during 42 laps (out of 114 covered during the race) but dropped down to third, 28.308 seconds behind the winning #9 Oreca.

#65 Panis Racing fourth

M. Maldonado, Charles Milesi and A. Leclerc have long raced between P2 and P3 but Milesi lost P3 to Ghiotto with 14 minutes to go, ending fourth with #65 Panis Raing Oreca.

Richard Mille by TDS wins LMP2 Pro-AM

Rodrigo Sales, Gregoire Saucy and Mathias Beche with #29 Richard Mille by TDS Oreca finished eighth overall and took Pro-Am honors after the team won LMP2 class at Indianapolis last weekend.
