Ford Mustang front row in GTD PRO class
Ford Multimatic Motorsports will start on the front row of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD Pro field for the 63rd Rolex 24 At Daytona.
The #64 Ford Multimatic Motorsports Mustang GT3, driven by Mike Rockenfeller, earned the second series pole for Mustang GT3 with a lap of 1:45.523 around Daytona International Speedway Road Course. The #65 sister car, driven by Frédéric Vervisch, helped Mustang GT3 secure the front row with a lap of 1:45.855.
The pole position marks the second by Mustang GT3 globally and in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the last accomplished by Giammarco Levorato of Proton Competition at Virginia International Raceway in 2024.
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, No. 64 Ford Multimatic Motorsports Ford Mustang GT3 (GTD Pro) “We decided before qualifying to go a different route than everyone else. We did a slower out lap, and then I went back to the pits to make sure we got some heat in the tires from the brakes – just sitting there and letting the heat soak in. That helped a lot. When I went out again, with about 10 minutes remaining, I felt immediately that it was a good decision. The car had a lot of grip, the tires worked well, and the balance was fantastic.” Source: Ford Performance
FRÉDÉRIC VERVISCH, No. 65 Ford Multimatic Motorsports Ford Mustang GT3 (GTD Pro) – “Congratulations to Ford and Multimatic for this front row lockout. It’s really positive for us to come back to where we started a year ago and take the top two positions. Congratulations too to Mike [Rockenfeller] for his great lap. I’m really looking forward to the race. At the end of the day the qualifying position for a race like Daytona isn’t as important as the short races but it means we go into it with a positive vibe. We have a strong package and hopefully we will still be in the top positions at the end of the 24 hours.” Source: Ford Performance
United Autosports P1 and P3 in LMP2
Daniel Goldburg, in the #22 United Autosports Oreca 07 Gibson, claimed LMP2 pole with a best lap of 1:38.676. He edged out #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports by 0.324 seconds as Ben Keating locked up his tires in his flying lap. Reigning class champion Nick Boulle qualified third in the #2United Oreca
Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R takes pole in GTD
Wright Motorsports delivered an outstanding performance in the GTD class. Driving the #120 Porsche 911 GT3 R, American Elliott Skeer set the fastest lap, clinching pole position for the team.
Elliott Skeer (Porsche 911 GT3 R #120): “What an incredible feeling to start the biggest IMSA race of the year from pole position! Our Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R had everything it needed to be fast today. The team put in tremendous effort during preparation, and it paid off with this excellent result. Now, we have 24 long hours of racing ahead of us. We’re starting from the best possible position.” Source: Porsche
