Alessio Picariello first attempt for Triple Crown

Porsche driver Alessio Picariello completed his first attempt for a Triple Crown in GTE-GTD endurance racing by driving the last 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 2021), 24 Hours of Daytona (January 2022) and 12 Hours of Sebring (March 2022).

Known as being the three most challenging endurance races over the decades, the 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Le Mans events make up the Triple Crown in endurance racing.

It is not common for an endurance driver to be able to participate to those three races in a row as the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring are part of the IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) championship in the USA and the 24 Hours of Le Mans is part of the WEC (World Endurance Championship). Both championships run similar cars but with different specifications.

2020 European Le Mans Series GTE champion driver Alessio Picariello participated, last year, to his first 24 Hours of Le Mans for Absolute Racing with whom he drove in Asia. Gentleman driver Andrew Haryanto, Marco Seefried and Alessio drove the Porsche 911 RSR #18 in GTE AM class.

After qualifying 51st (13th of 23 GTE AM cars), the trio ended the race 34th overall with a nice 7th in GTE AM.

At Sebring, #79 WeatherTech Racing driven by Cooper MacNeil, Julien Andlauer and Alessio Picariello crossed the finish line in P6 after a faultless race but not the right speed to be on the lead.
